Introduction
Domestic violence refers to abuse by one individual against another within a domestic setting such as in a marriage. In today’s world, domestic violence has taken center stage. This is mostly attributed to the fact that these cases have received the much-needed exposure that was absent in the past. This, in turn, has resulted in laws being enacted by both the federal as well as state government in an effort to prevent domestic violence as well as to provide justice to victims of domestic violence. In this paper, a federal as well as state law in Virginia that are as a result of domestic abuse issues will be discussed.
